The world is round because of pressure. Spheres can withstand greater amounts of pressure than any object with sides because the intersections of the sides makes weak points in the structure. However, a sphere has no weak point and the pressure is distributed evenly. The planet is under a great amount of pressure from space and would implode if it were flat.

The world could not be flat and must be round because of gravity. Gravity has pulled the loose rock that makes up the earth into a round shape, because spheres have the most evenly distributed gravity of any geometric figure. Then, heat and pressure fused the loose rock together into a planet.
