Indeed, astronomers have verified (I beleive with a 90% probability) that a planet in a distant solar system contains water. This planet, however, probably does not support life. It's a large gas planet (like Jupiter or Saturn) that circles a binary star system (binaries are probably just as or more common than single-star systems). It's unlikely to harbor life as we know it.
Go to www.space.com for fascinating news about what's discovered "out there."
And, think about this: In our galaxy alone there are estimated to be well over 100 Billion stars. Let's say that 10th of 1% have a rocky planet that is close enough to their sun to harbor life, but not too close as to burn up. That's 100 Million possible planets.
Let's say that 10th of 1% of those planets have water and an atmosphere that has oxygen to support life as we know it. That's 100,000 planets.
Let's say that 10th of 1% of those planets have developed some form of intelligent, sentient life. That's 100 planets in this galaxy, the Milky Way, a smaller galaxy when compared to other galaxies in the Universe.
Now let's say that every galaxy in the known Universe has about the same ratio of planets that can support intelligent life. That's an extimated 100 TRILLION galaxies--times 100!
Why does the arrogance of Man believe that this is the only planet in the entire Universe that could possibly support sentient life? The arrogance of Man is to presume to know the will, the mind of a god and force their interpretation of a book written by Man, edited by Man, and interpreted by Man to control other people through fear and ignorance. (Do what I say or you'll burn in a hell with fire and brimstone for an eternity! Believe what I believe or I'll kill you and your family and other who believe like you!) Really, you scare children that way. But, most people never mentally grow up.
What will tomorrow bring? Another day of the Earth turning. Another day of Man killing Man. Another day of Man trying to impose his will on Man through the threat of violence, torture, and false promises of things getting better if only we can go kill more poeple and spend more money on weapons to do so.
Another day of someone discovering love within themselves that they had lost. Another day of another person or 100 shedding the cloak of ignorance and fear, and embracing what every 2-year-old knows--that the Devine Oneness is in each and every one of us, and that we are all connected--every being throughout the Universe. There is wonder out there on this planet. There are wonders out there in the Universe that our minds cannot comprehend at this time (perhaps never will if we wipe ourselves out and ruin the planet for 10,000 years).
What will tomorrow bring?

the water was detected in the planets atmosphere. so your idea of oceans on the planet could be far off. we don't know that much about this planet.
it orbits its star in less than a week so it is very close to its star, so it would be an extremely hot planet most likely. so odds are there are not any living beings on it.
that doesn't mean that there aren't other planets though that have water.
the main thing to think about is that it shows that water is on other planets. this brings us one step closer to finding out if other planets can support life.
scripture won't be rewritten (i'm assuming you meant scripture not sculpture)
i don't know what tomorrow will bring, i guess we'll find out tomorrow.

There is a planet orbiting another star that shows water in the spectrum of light from its star that passes through the planet's atmosphere when the planet passes in front of the star, but that planet is very close to its star and very hot. All water would be in the form of super heated steam. It would destroy any life instantly.

it may be fresh does no longer it. I incredibly like the section approximately cutting off help to countries who do their utmost to vilify us at ever threat. talk approximately biting the hand that feeds you. the only political chief who could evaluate giving this speech is John Howard yet regrettably he's Australian. And to P,L & H; you need to get your self knowledgeable bud. the quantity of funds we deliver to different countries in distant places help is disgusting and could dwarf the quantity spent on Iraq and that's been occurring alot longer than the conflict. As for the oil... we've adequate better half and little ones oil reserves in this counrty to take over by fact the #a million oil producing u . s . in the worldwide and save that status until eventually fossil gas technologies will become a fossil itself. you honestly ought to get a clue.

As of today I have heard that Mars has possibilities. I did work for NASA and have looked at many pictures of Mars . There are many dry river beds and giant canyons ,that appear to of been cut by water . If Mars was warm enough for water to flow how hot was it here on earth.

Hmmm, I missed that one. I will have to research exactly what was discovered before my opinion would have any meaning. But the possibilities are wide open. Changing ones faith, well thats a whole other matter.
