what is probablity of successfully answerig a multiple choice question with a pure guess if there are four answers to choose from?

But you can, with a little knowledge, rule out 1 or 2 possibilities making the probabilities 33.3% or even 50% Guess intuitively rather than just guess!

narrow it down first.
If you can't than you have a 1 out of four (25%) chance of getting is right.
If can get rid of one you have a 1 out of 3 (33%) chance.
Get rid of 2 you have a one out 2 chance (50%)
Don't answer at all and you have a 0% chance of getting it right.

About 50% if you can narrow it down. In my science tests, for example, each choice is one bit different from the real answer, so you can often figure out what the answer is going to be.

eg a) 2ma/(g*g)
b) 8ma/g
c) 8ma/(g*g)
d) 8a/(m*g*g)

So answer would be c.
