(2 + √5)(2 - √5) = 2(2) - 2(√5) + √5(2) - √5(√5) = 4 - 2√5 + 2√5 - 5 = 4 - 5 = -1

Yeah there is a way that you can prove that 2+2=5.
And sometimes in a real life you just don't get how certain things happened. And you say hmmm yes 2+2 is equal to 5.

Well if you use a Base 3 number system then 2+2 = 11....
But in Base 10/Decimal (the only number system that 99% of the population has heard of) then 2+2 = 4.
So he's wrong.

No 2+2=4. There is no way that 2+2 could equal 5. Not even if one of them we're positive or negative. He could be using on of the 2's as a variable but, you really can't do that because a variable is a letter. =\ The guy must just be crazy!

Yes because who ever thought of math and **** in the first place just stated that 2+2=4 now what makes them rite? absoulutly nothing ... so if someone says it equals 5 6 7 8 9 or even 546 i dont see why they cant be right!

actually, u can prove anything with math calculations!!
maybe this guy( if he doesn't lie of course) has used many math equations and rules and came off to this result!!
but this can't be true in real life, as we have defined whats mathematically possible and whats not.
and thats not mathematically possible, because,as u know, 2+2=4.
thats y we should use our brains not just mathematical calculations!
because any1 can, without them being an expert or whatever, prove something that doesn't have ''logical''base with just using math calculations!!
i say it again:
this guy may well have proved that, but as 2+2 equals to 4, it can't be as well equal to 5!!
its just pure logic or common sense, if u want!!
hope u got what i mean!!
have a nice day sweetheart!!
p.s. my english sucks!! hope u understand me!!

And there's a kid in Honors Geometry and one in my 8th grade Algebra class who did this equation to prove that 1=2... of course the rest of us think they're crazy.
If you have two apples and I give you two more, you get four apples, not five! As for 1=2, if you had two apples and I had one, you'd have more!

You are so right! (Btw, the people here probably have mixed answers so it might not help anyway) OR, he is right anyways. I tried convincing my family that 1+1 = 3 and no one belived me, but it is SO obviously correct. Just think about it. And so yes, the guy is correct. Support him!!
