Maybe if you know about brokers or landlords, just any information about the availability or possibility of student housing other than dorms found in NYC, preferably in Manhattan.

As a fellow New Yorker here is the only advice I can give you. The previous poster nailed it on the head you have to share an apartment. Apartments range from 2,000+ for a studio if you are lucky a small 1 bedroom (Jr-4). You should check out places in the Boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. Some parts are in a short commute to NYC. not till you pass to college IN ny city. like NYU or %.. they have relatively advantageous dorms. plus ny city flats are costly-my cousin lives there and he reported he will pay $1500 for his one mattress room
