i have just got a new sound card, i was wondering if it would use up RAM space,
i may need to get some new RAM cards

yes it may slightly use up ram. but if you have a decent ram, say 512, you should be fine.

You should not notice any difference in the performance of your machine at all with a sound card added. However if you feel you need more ram here is a useful link.Go to the http://www.crucial.com/uk they can do an on line check which will determine which ram your motherboard supports. They will recommend the optimum amount. You can order on line and although they are not the cheapest it is worth paying for good ram. slightly it will use, thats because of the sound card's driver, drivers may take up ram spaces but wts using most of the ram is the applications in use. so a 512 mb can only open maximum of 4-6 internet explorer with a slight lag when switching screen while 2gb can open near 50 with no problem

Most have their own RAM, but, do go outside of this and use System RAM when needed.
Dang, I may be wrong on that, I was thinking Video Card.

directly it doesn't but its device driver do.
some sound card device driver install programes withen the device driver and some of them stay in systry. but sound card it self see it simple as AD (analog digital converter)
