I'm looking for the best ways to color fire. I've done copper tubing to make fire a greenish-blue, but I've heard you can make purple and white fire...Are there any other colors? And what do you use? And other than the obvious dangers of a fire, are there any other unsafe things that could happen? It would be helpful to get them not as the actual chemicals themselves, but as a household or easy to find item.

White from epsom salts, magnesium sulfate.

Yellow from table salt, sodium chloride.

Green from boric acid, used for eye wash.

Those are the only ones I can think of that would be easily obtained around the house and would be safe to use.

I used to play with flash-powder and such as a teen... making fireworks and stage pyrotechnics (California licensed).

I used Alumininum or Magnesium powder for white.

Purple was Strontium Carbonate (road-flare) and Copper Oxide.

Be careful, be safe

Yellow was Charcoal or Iron Oxide (rust).
