Though Malinga is the top wicket taker from Sri Lanka in the world cup so far, I do not consider him as the star bowler for Sri Lanka. According to me their star bowlers are Chaminda Vaaz and Muralitharan.
As far as playing Malinga against Australia is concerned, if he is fit enought to play, he will be playing against Australia.

Great piece Dinith & its an honor to have Sir Don playing in Ceylon and in the Sub Continent. I am not good at stats & history but I heard about how long Sri Lanka played, before getting their Test status. That delayed status also helped SL in achieving early success. Its so nice to read that the grounds were full to watch the great batsman. That means cricket has been getting its due love from our people, right from the start & reason why we are so fanatic about it. Also agree that bowlers who got him out, no matter on what kind of wickets or in exhibition matches, they had a lot to boast about that to their grand kids. It certainly is a grand achievement on their parts. Don't know whether or not to get into, what could have been, had Sir Don played in the Sub Cont regularly but however much he played, it was indeed an honor. I hope not! If they did, the Aussies will bring up their strategies against him for the finals. He should rest and wait for the big day. SL can win without him too, remember the match Vs New Zealand?

i agree with vakayil malinga is not the star bowler for the sri lankans. he can be too expensive at times and i think he is flings not bowl.

its better to expose malinga to the ausies in a must win situation.
he might surprise them then. if he is exposed in the group stage ,the ausies might work him out.

the fact is that he is injured and he wont play in the australia game, unfortunatly but hopefully he will play against irland
