Hi, I'm 29 weeks pregnant and already dilated, they said a fingertip (less than 1). I have to go in next week and make sure it's not more. It's really early to dilate at all. With my first child I wasn't at 1 until 2 weeks before I had her, and my water broke at 3. Anyone had or heard of a similar situation? Is it because it's my second? Maybe someone can help ease my nerves. Thanks!

They checked me so early, because I was exaimened after some bleeding with intercourse. All checked out well though. I know sometimes ppl dilate a month early, but I'm more like 2 1/2 months early.

Some women will be dilated to 1 their whole pregnancy. As long as you are now going past that you are fine.

Dont get too nervous. Its not odd to dialate one or two centimeters and some women and have 1-2 cm dilation for the last month or two of pregnancy. My friend did and she went full term. In fact she stopped dialating and she was close to having a C section. Go to the doctor like you are doing and he'll probably tell you to take it more easy. What really matters is if you are effaced or not. That can determine wether you are put on bedrest. If you get lucky by the time you get full term and arrive at the hospital youll have gone through the early stages of dilation and have a easier, shorter birth.

the more children you have the earlier you dilate.with each of my pregnancies i dilated well before they came.they didn't come early like i expected though.by the time i actually went into labor i would already be 5 centimeters dilated.i have 8 kids now with only one coming early because when i hit 5 cm the doc wanted me go on bed rest with the twins and i didn't. you can go weeks being less than 1 to 5 cm.i wouldn't be concerned about it to much.

I was dilated at 2 for almost a month. So as long as you don't start dilating over that and having serious contractions, I think you will be ok. Report any changes to your doctor. As odd as this sounds, I could 'feel' when I was dilating more.

I would question why your doc was checking your cervix that early....usually they don't check the cervix until about 36-37 weeks. Not to scare you, but if you end up dilating more, perhaps you have an incompetant cervix? Even if you didn't with your first, it's possible in other pregnancies.

The only thing I've been told NOT EXPERIENCED MYSELF that may be able to help you here is that usually with the second or third or fourth pregnancy, your body won't dilate or efface as quickly because it knows what to do already. But, again, that's only what I have heard, Not experienced.

Yes its early. If it dialates more they may put you on bed rest. Try not to stress too much though. There are medications and other procedures they can do. Try taking a nap in the middle of the day and dont do any lifting or hard physical activities and cut out sex too.

Why did they check you so soon? Was there a problem that lead the dr to believe you needed to be checked?

I don't really know, but you could do that and then stay at that for the next 10 weeks. Who knows...our bodies are insane!!

Good luck and hope everything is fine!

If they are waiting until next week to see you again, I wouldn't worry too much. And it isn't too terribly early, either. Just check in with your doctor if you feel anything unusual and try stay relaxed! Congratulations on the baby!

i was dilated to 2cm at 7months.My daughter was born at 37 weeks .It was actually having sex with my husband which caused me to dilate. so just be careful when having sex , it can send you into labor. my 3rd son i was told not to even have sex during my pregnancy.
