Ok, a lot of people are saying Don Imus shouldn't have been fired, but as a teacher I can tell you with 100% certainty if I called any of my children a "ho" or "nappy headed ho" the school board would find out and I would be fired immediately. So, why shouldn't someone in a position like Mr. Imus be held to the same standard. And no I don't condone rap lyrics, thats a large part of what is wrong with the children I teach today. So I think CBS and MSNBC made the right call.

Uh, yes. I wouldn't tolerate any type of behavior like that from any of my kids teachers.

My sentiments exactly. A lot of these racists people have put Imus on a pedestal. You can almost say that most of them see him as their "god". They feel he can do no wrong, but they are the ones that are wrong. Imus got exactly what he deserved. We must all learn to respect one another and be accountable for our own actions. If Imus didn't feel what he did was wrong I am sure he wouldn't have met with the women of Rutgers. He had already been fired from his job so he had nothing lose. There are some who actually believe Imus situation and the scenario you just presented are totally different. That's the problem with some people in our society, we tend to place a higher value on pro athletes and celebrities then we do our educators. Peace and God bless.

So a radio show host should be held to the same standards as a teacher? Those girl's families have a right to be mad but this was not some tirade on a race of people. It was not said to their face and was just a comment made to be funny, WHICH IS WHAT HE DOES FOR A LIVING.
He should have been punished somehow, maybe get some education on why it was wrong, apologize and everyone move on. Jobs dealing with the public are held to a different standard and should be.

So do I. He was wrong and he got fired. I think it's time we got back to doing just that. I'm tired of hearing people make outrageous comments in public and then try to go back and clean it up later with a public apology and say "that's not what I ment " or some B.S. when you know good and well that it was how they really think and feel. I do think their is a difference in a teacher/student relationship and a radio personality/total stranger relationship but in this case the outcome should be the same.

Well, Imus is no teacher. One thing that really bothered me is the age difference between Imus and those girls he insulted. They are two generations apart. The girls are young enough to be his grandchildren. If a young white man had said those things, maybe I would just think that's how young people talk these days. It's still nasty, though.

honestly! that's no longer the 1st time Imus has made insulting racial reviews...and per risk if he's canned, it ought to be the final time. How do you're saying "nappy headed hos" with out malice? in spite of the undeniable fact that, Imus isn't the only public parent who has disrespected black women human beings. What approximately Eddie Murphy with is disgusting Norbit action picture? What relating to the manufacturers of massive Mama's domicile? whilst are human beings going to quit treating black women human beings as we are honest pastime whilst it incorporates stereotyping, defaming and demeaning? I for am in simple terms tired of it! that's totally almost such as you need to be skinny and blonde to get any form of appreciate or love in this society...and it stinks!!!

The term is a old one used in the 70s by African Americans at each other It was stupid then and still is.What Mr. Imus did was not racial it was stupid it was rude it was uncalled for no matter who said it. A rude remark from someone in Power is uncalled for by any race To put a racial spin on it takes away from what he did. He called these educated fine young women black/white names to hurt them and no matter who you are that's wrong, Yes he should have been fired

I think the word "nappy" is acceptable, but "nappy headed" is poor English and should not be used by a teacher in school. Of course calling anybody "ho" is offensive.
You are right, though. A teacher has to be extra careful. "She has very curly hair" is a safer way of saying it.

You are in a different kind of position than he is. This country was founded on the right to "free speech" as a teacher you should know this. We are in a free market system. Let the people decide. Suspend him for a week, and when he comes back on, if his ratings go down, then fire him. But, his job is "shock jock". I don't like him. I didn't listen to him. I don't like what he said, but he still has right to "free speech". And, it is a slippery slope, because soon there will be more of this subjected on others. And as far as the children you teach, that is the parent's responsibilty. They are supposed to be monitering what their children watch and listen to. As a parent, I do not allow my children to watch or listen to those kinds of things. As much as I like Jack Bauer(looking at your user name there), I don't let my 8 year old watch him because it is too violent for her. By the way, JACK ROCKS!!! Anyway, just a different perspective for you to look at. I personally don't think it would be right for you to refer to your student like that, and I think you should be reprimanded if it was a first offense, but I don't even think it should be grounds to fire you. I think if you made a habiit of it, then they might have a case. I don't think you would say something like that based on your question, but I wanted to get my point across.

p.s. Can't wait till Monday night, wonder if there will me as good a line as "say hello to your brother."

Yes. Would you want a bigot teaching your child? This is a person who is helping to mold your child's mind. Only a fool would think this is acceptable behavior from anyone....
