The best way to learn how to act is to act. Become involved with your local community theater groups and start auditioning. You'll gain all kinds of experience and make valuable connections. You don't say your age, but if you're still in school get involved in your school's theater group(if it has one). Acting is wonderful and challenging, physically, emotionally and spiritually and it's worth every bit of the effort you put into it.

Break a leg!

First you have to decide what field of acting you want to get into? Theatre, movies, televsion, musical theatre? Next stay in school, get an education in something other than "acting" so that you can at least feed yourself while you're waiting to become an "actress". The more intelligent actors have majored in other studies while minoring in their craft so that for the years they spend trying to become "famous" they can at least live decently. Take voice lessons, not just in singing but in vocalizing, speaking. Start auditioning for small parts in community theatre productions while you are "honing" your craft. (My daughter is currently in "The Vaginia Monologues" and is up for a part in Les Mis this summer)
Don't get discouraged.

Take acting classes for 10 or 12 years. Audition for plays in the city where you live.

'There are no small parts, only small actors."
There are actors, and then there are stars. The stars put butts in seats, but the actors make the audience stay in them. Stay dedicated to your craft and pursue the challenging non-lead roles, and you will be an actor.

well... work for it... that's all you can really do... Audition, play and just do it till you get noticed.
my personal advice is try to vary the styles if you do decide to do this... go for the traditionals, and the new stuff. the funny stuff and the weird eccentric stuff...
but in the end... you'll have to decide for yourself.

Dress in bright colors!! Let your inner Broadway star show!!! Just be yourself, and, soon enough, someone will notice you.
