Sure why not. Makes sense to me.
Mind you, I've been told my logic is a bit off. :S

Sour cream is good until the mold begins to grow on the surface of it....and it's still good after that if you want to scrape the mold off the surface.
The expiration date is only there as a guideline. Most products are good WAAAAYYYYY past that arbitrary date.

Normally dairy products are good for about 3 days after their sell-by date because that date is just for the store to know when to pull it from their shelves but if the sour cream is water and smells nasty pitch it or you'll get very sick. Also, if you think its gone bad just by that date then throw it away anyway you can always get more.

the bluish-green tint on the top is a chemically induced indicator that major brands use to tell you it is no longer usable as sour cream. let it sit in a sunny window for 3 months and you should then have a very fine Stilton cheese.
jk!

The best. Just scrape off that green stuff off the top - it's probably toxic and enjoy a sour, 'sour' cream.

Very nice Q, verging on funny! Sour cream is supposed to be sour, so when it's past it's expiration or when it's sour, then it must be good, right?! Good one.

Sour Cream should have a warning that says "Warning Do Not Eat Unitl AFTER This Date:"
Of course I'm kidding. I wouldn't eat it.

No. Though people who don't like cream cheese, blue cheese or sour cream and say if it 'goes bad' then it just is a better flavor - being smart allic of how nasty they think it tastes - that's wrong. they can go bad too!

It might - but my fell safe choice is to SMELL IT. I don't always pay attention to expiration dates -but that's ME. Many times you can keep food after the date but it depends upon how you have housed (cabinet, frig, etc.) it. The expiration date is the company's telling you their recommendation. But - it's up to you.....

It's okay for a couple days. I always scrape the top "layer" off and then dig in. If it's discoloredor you have some growth you might want to stay away :)
