The first thing I would do is make sure the car is in Park if it is an automatic. Try moving the shifter while pulling on the key. If that doesnt work then you have a lock cylinder that has a tumbler or spring problem. If you aren't a mechanic take it to a locksmith or a reputable shop because they will probably have to take your steering column apart to repair this problem. If you have some mechanical ability and the right tools(including manual)a person can attempt this. If the car has airbags be careful because people have been hurt when they accidently deployed the airbag in the steering wheel. Good luck.

I had this problem, there was a small toy that had fallen into the gear box(mine transmission is on the floor) and my key wouldn't come out. I took it to a mechanic and he pulled the cover off and found the toy.

more info would be nice but if the wheel is turned hard one wayit may be putting the lock in a bind, try turning/pulling the steering wheel in the direction that the wheels are turned at the same time your are trying to move the key back to the lock posistion.

Make sure the transmission selector is in park all the way, you may have to try several times...make sure the switch is in the "off" position, NOT all the way back in "acc"...
