30k mile checkup for 2005 acura TL?

i have a 2005 acura TL and i'm about to hit 30k miles soon.

what service do they perform for 30k checkup at the dealership? is it just checking the fluid levels or does it involve a lot more? what's the average cost for this service?

also do i have to get this service done at the dealership or can i take the car to any mechanics? what do you recommand?

I read this in an Acura forum, thought it was pretty interesting:

OK, here is the list from the owners link web site for the 30k service:

Services to be performed:
Replace engine oil.
Rotate tires. Follow the pattern shown in the Owner's Manual. Check tire inflation and condition.
Adjust valves if noisy.
Inspect front and rear brakes.
Check pads and discs for wear (thickness) and damage.
Check calipers for leaks and check tightness of mount bolts.
Check brake lining (or shoes) for cracking, glazing, wear and contamination.
Check parking brake adjustment. Should be fully applied within 2 to 4 clicks.
Inspect tie-rod ends, steering gearbox and rack boots.
Check steering linkage for looseness.
Check fluid lines for damage and leaks.
Inspect suspension components.
Check bolts for tightness.
Check condition of ball joint boots for deterioration and damage.
Inspect driveshaft for cracks and check boot bands for tightness.
Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS). Check the master cylinder, proportioning controlvalve and ABS modulator for damage and leakage.
Check all fluid levels, condition of fluids and check for leaks. If needed, add transmission fluid, engine coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
Check for damage, leaks and deterioration.
Check for proper fan operation.
Inspect exhaust system. Check catalytic converter heat shield, exhaust pipe, and muffler for damage, leaks, and tightness.
Inspect fuel lines and connections. Check for leaks.
Replace air cleaner element.
Inspect and adjust drive belts.
Replace air conditioning filter.


Seems like a lot of words and service for the money right??? Not really. Take away all of the sentences that begin with check/inspect and you are left with:


Replace engine oil.
Rotate tires. Follow the pattern shown in the Owner's Manual.
Replace engine oil filter.
Replace air cleaner element.
Replace air conditioning filter.

Now lets break down the pricing for this service:

Oil and Filter change - 30.00
Air cleaner replacement - 12.00 changing it yourself
Air Condition Filter - 22.00 for both. Instructions for changing them yourself are on this board.

I see a total cost of 64.00 for all of the "service" that is being done to the car. Not so much of a bargain any more to have the Acura service techs "check and inspect" a car with only 30k on it.

There is this little book that never gets read in the glove box spend 1 to 2 hours reading it. You will be able to do things with your car you did not even know it would do. Then look at the maintence chart see what items are replaced and inspected at 30k. You don't drive very much. I have 2005 customers with 150,000 miles. They don't have time to stop driving to get maintence done, just kidding. Acura dealer is the best for the service but don't get hoodwinked into extra servicing like injector flushing and carbon cleaning not stated in the owners hand book. Wallet Flushing is what I call it! That's how mechanics and dealerships pad the bill. Tire balancing new brake pads and alignment all good items to get done wear items are not warranty. During the last time the car is still covered by factory warranty. Bring up any broken or problems with the service advisor at this time. Check for recalls and repairs covered by the Manufacture.

i own a repair shop,an this will be a cheap one to do ,all that needs to be done is a complete fluid check ,and an oil change,probably rotate the tires check the brakes real good and all the belts,and maybe replace the spark plugs if needed,and air filter,at this low of mileage all they will do is sort of hit at it,and replace only what it needs,which id say wont be very much,cost on this shouldn't be over 200 bucks ,but dealers have a way of tagging on things,when i do a low mileage inspection ,and minor things that needs to be done it usually don't cost over 200 unless i get in to changing belts on one,and id also think that yours are still good,they ,ll do a lot more at 60 thousand than they will at 30k on it,so this time it wont get much but the next time it will get a lot more done to it,good luck with it hope this helps.

you maintenace journal tells you what your display a12 needs. a 30k service is not checking fluids. It is a manufacture standard of replacing interval fluids and tire balance and rotation and air filters. Also trained acura technicians like myself knows what to look for as far as safety and other aspects of your car that repair shop owners don't see everyday. Also your TL is an '05, did you bring your car in for the fuel pump relay recall? I worked both in a repairshop annd dealership shop and I know both angles of the business. 12 yrs. experience and 3 yrs acura trained technician.

Only posting because I own an '06 TL...

The answers coming from the first two posts are great...I couldn't add anything, only affirm their words.

BTW, I took my car to an independent shop, saving some $ over the dealer, though I opted for snythetic oil (which costs more).

30 k at honda dealer includes oil change r&b tires with brake inspection alignment brake fluid flush cabin and engine air filters should be same at acura dealer
