I would say, assuming you recognize the theory of evolution, that the egg came first. The ancestor of the modern chicken at some point had a modification in its DNA, allowing for the creation of a better adapted, closer-to-the-modern-chicken, chicken.

just like the first two people on earth. God made 2 chickens, they mated and then came the egg. so the chicken came first.

the egg cam first. eggs were around way longer than chickens were. dinosaurs and reptilians laid eggs and they were around way before chickens came into the picture.

hmmmmm. dinosaurs came first---chickens are the decendents of the dinosaurs--serious--I saw it on the news yesterday. scientists found & tested the dna from a T-rex dinosaur bone & discovered that chickens are the decendents.
