International adoptions cost around $20,000 and we have already paid for most of it. However, we still need to raise around$6,000. The donations would be tax deductible through our agency.

Why don't you have something like a baby shower? Have a bunch of people over, maybe have special drinks or something for sale, or a raffle. Good luck saving this little one, I respect you for that.

Um I'd have to say NO!!! When you get pregnant, you don't ask for assistance from friends and family (at least I don't), however someone might throw you a shower. When choosing to have a child you should be prepared to financially care for that child on your own. I understand that adoptions are expensive and I somewhat understand your problem, but in my honest opinion, if I got a letter from someone like that I would think it was extremely tacky. HOWEVER...I have a suggestion...maybe you have a family member (mom or sister) that could plan a fundrasier of sorts for you. Maybe a dinner for friends/family where the pay for their meal and the profits go towards your adoption. But if I were you, I wouldn't do it myself...it would be like giving yourself a baby shower. Good luck and I hope you raise the money you need, but you do it in a tactful way.

Personally, I think it would be ok. You know your family and friends, and you know how they think. Some people would say no, but then again, they are not you. Your community of family/friends knows how much this means to you and how long you have tried to make this happen. It's a tremendous feat. They would probably be more than happy to help out. I would sit down and write a letter stating the situation. Mention that dontations can be sent to the agency. It's your decision in the end. Good luck and I hope everything works out!

Hi SpohieCo, I'm assuming that you are adopting from overseas because you are past the age to adopt in your country, and that you don't have any other children? If this is the case then family and friends have probably being feeling for your dilemma for years, and would probably love to help. Make sure to tell them that it's tax deductible too. All the best:)

This would be so wrong. There are so many children in this country who need good homes. My husband and I are young. We just adopted a 2 year old from the state foster care system. It cost about $2000. Now we are trying to save some money to buy our first house. Why don't you adopt 2 kids locally and donate the rest of the money to my first house fund?

Would you be willing to donate money to friends and family who wrote you a letter? If so, then sure why not write and ask them. You may be asked to return the favor some day though - for whatever reason - keep that in mind. Good luck! :-)

I think that should be OK. It is your family and friends. Its not like you are asking a stranger off the streets. If you go to church you can also ask your priest to put in a word of donations for you. Or you can ask him if you can get 5 minutes up in front to explain your situation. It also can be printed on your church bulletin. What better place to get help than your family, friends, and church.

Just a fun thought--why not have a friend throw you a "dream baby" adoption shower? That would give people the option of not coming to the party, and if they wanted to come they could contribute to your "dream baby" fund.

Good luck!

send them too much Monopoly money and they'll be able to sell the games or give them out as "special Gifts with every donation over $1000."
