Actually, I think it's to help, like a big family of brothers or sisters. (Sorority, fraternity) I wouldn't join one because I don't think I need assistance in college.

they continue to work together and work with you after graduation. Provides you with connections and a system to network an most people do get really good jobs through networking as opposed to just sending out your resume.
