That style of casual wear was very popular in the 1980's, so I think it's considered retro now. Loud colors and patterns were prevalent back then, so a more updated look might feature earthy tones.
For example, charcoal leggings, a pewter-colored sweater and a cream tank top under that if the sweater has a deep v-neck.
Try camel-colored leggings, a cream-colored sweater and pale robin-egg blue tank.

It depends on your size, age, fit, and where you are going to wear this outfit. Leggings only look good on slim legs. It is better if the sweater covers the rear. Also, you can't wear this just anywhere because it is ultra casual.

As long as the sweater isnt loose at the top. If it is, it would be awkward if you bent over. Maybe wear it with boots or uggs. Hope this helped! -Kristin
