Nope. That's only a surprise to the Democrats. They actually think that republicans are racists, which couldn't be farther from the truth. The KKK was started by a Southern democrat who was also a Confederate Calvary General named Nathan Bedford Forrest. Robert Byrd, the senior Democrat in the Senate was a KKK Grand Dragon, and Senator Strom Thurmond, who was a racist, foreswore his racist ways when he left the Democratic Party and became a Republican.
There's a lot of minority folks out there who believe that Republicans are racists because Republicans are not in favor of government handouts. What they don't realize is that democrats believe that minorities are like little children who can't succeed on their own and have to be cared for. If that isn't racist, I don't know what is. On top of that Democrats buy votes from the lazy ones who don't want to improve themselves by providing government handouts at the expense of the working public.

No to the first question, but I've got a bone to pick with you on the next part. Ok, the old southern Democrats aren't the same things as the Democrats today. Notice that the majority of the Liberals are up north now. (thank goodness....) Actually, less than half of the southern people were slave owners, and some of those people up north had slaves. A lot of people will tell you that the Civil War was fought over slavery (the winners write the history books), but really, that was just part of it. An undeniable part of it, none the less, but not the whole of it. It also solved the problem of how much power each state had, the rights of the states, and so on.
So Imus was making those racist comments because Liberals are hypocrites, not because he was a white, southern slave owner. I don't think he's from the south, anyway.

Don Imus has been a shock jock for a very long time.
I don't care that some people felt offended when they were told what he said. It was the people who repeated his remarks that did the offending in this case.
If the remark was in such poor taste why has it been constantly repeated by those who were complaining?
Imus only said it once in the heat of the moment. How many times did Al Sharpton and others repeat it? Shame on them.
Would the comment have been more acceptable if Imus was not white ?
I hope the ACLU will back Imus' right of free speech.
How many of the white main stream media characters, such as Bill Riley get blasted for calling someone names that hurt just as deep?
It's unfair and I hope after his Radiothon is over he will come back. If not he has retired going out the same way that he came in, in a storm of controversy.
Does Chapelle get blasted for using the N---word?
Does Mencina get blasted for his racist remarks?
Why should a well known shock jock get blasted for a shocking remark?

Democrats have not asked Reid to step down for numerous reasons, one in each and every of them being the "politics of means." Democrats administration the two chambers of Congress, and desire to proceed their majority. Reid made a political blunder that could translate no longer purely into his seat being lost (uncertain nonetheless), yet additionally different Dems dropping theirs besides. So the difficulty handy is that the Democrats now possibility dropping their Senate majority chief and probable different seats by disenchanted electorate, that is catastrophic for the forthcoming election cycle. The quickest thank you to sidestep this from occurring is to easily save face, which would be extremely ordinary by fact human beings of effect have already started to settle for his apology. So its greater often than not approximately protecting directly to means that the Democrats won't ask Reid to offer up, which, sure, is a double properly-known yet additionally no longer spectacular.

I am no fan of Imus, but check your voting records. He's registered Republican. He's made that clear for many, many, many years. Or maybe you think he's part of some left-wing conspiracy to disguise himself as a Republican .... whatever. Sorry, your fact about Imus is wrong.
Edit: LOL. If you base your opinions on what Ann Coulter says, you have serious problems. He has stated on a regular basis that he is registered as a Republican and that he is the only Republican on his block in NYC. Of course, Ann probably knows what he is better than he knows, right? LOL
You also might read an American history book about the old South and what's called a "Southern Democrat," before you use those terms. Read whoawhoa below for the short course.

I was not surprised he is a liberal, if you've ever listen to his show you'd know that after a week. 80% of his guest were liberals and they usually agreed on things. I'm not sure he's in the same league as the others you put in your question but it doesn't surprise me that most liberal are closet racist in one form or another. Most liberals believe they know what's best for others and we should just roll over to let them run our lives. They been doing that to minorities for (I'll be kind) the last 70 years, now they just want to run everyones life... Say no to the nanny-state!

the republican party before the civil war was the polar opposite of what it is now, aka it is the current day democratic party and vice-versa, so Lincoln actually freed the slaves and led the country through the civil war under democratic ideals...

No, but the bulk of the Democratic Party abhors racism. And to be fair, you will more than likely find much more Republicans (esp. in the south) who are racist. Don't try to color the whole party with the acts of a few nutcases.

I am shocked, absolutely shocked to learn that there are racists in every political party in America and among independents. Surely you are kidding?
You could not identify an African American in this country who does not know that there are racists throughout the American culture, unless such African American is comatose.

Are you trying to say that the Republican party is without racists? the biggest rascist is Bill O'Reilly and he certainly is a Conservative Republican. If I was you, living in your glass house, I would stop throwing strones. Tha rascism Imus showed, although I think real, was an side remark...When O'Reilly does it, it is a 1/2 hour segment devoted to it. Sho evidence that he is a Democrat, because i can find none.
This man is a racist
