so dissapointing, been looking forward to the world cup for a while now, i love watching oz vs india and pakistan. but instead i sat up watching oz vs ireland. ireland have now lost 5 games in the super 8's. india and pakistan lost just 2 matches and that was the end of their campaign. i totaly blame the officials and organizers. this whole w/c has been a joke without two of the top teams for the majority of the tournament. does anyone agree?

maybe i didnt explain myself. the fact that in the group games, their was only 3 matches. two top teams go through. so say india lost one game to sri lanka, fair enough. so they have to win the next 2. they beat bermuda. they have an off game and lose to bangladesh. and their out. bangladesh beat bermuda so their in. their should be more qualifing games so the rightful teams go through.

I also think that the format of the tournament has left much to be desired. Instead of having super 8 stage, all the teams should have been playing each other in the Group stage itself and 2 top teams each from all the groups should have been made to play quarter finals and the winning 4 teams should have been made to play the semi finals.

The entire WC is an organisational nightmare.
First, its much too long...the tournament lasts almost 8 weeks. Even the most avid cricket fan is starting to get a little tired with it. It can, and should , be condensed down to 4 - 5 weeks maximum.
Second, the tickets are priced well out of the range of local people...so there's been half-empty stadiums, a complete lack of any sense of occasion, and none of that special Carribbean cricket atmosphere that everyone was looking forward to. The organisers seem to only want to sell tickets to wealthy holiday makers with plenty of cash to spend. It doesnt do anything for the future of the sport in the West Indies.
Thirdly, the Woolmer affair has put a downer on the whole tournament, although obviously that could not have been foreseen.
However, the failure of big nations like India and Pakistan to reach the later stages is purely their own fault..not the organisers. Like everyone else, both teams knew exactly what they had to do in order to reach the "Super Eight"...and they couldn't do it. The fact that Ireland are now being hammered by everyone was predictable, but they qualified fair and square from the group stage.

India and Pakistan did not deserve to be in the super 8's. This is the World cup we're talking about. Ain't nothing better than this, you're expected to bring your A game and keep it throughout. The fact is, the organisers cannot be blamed for them not making it through, it was all their fault. Ireland should not have made it through but ya know what, they played better cricket than Pakistan in the group stages and were so rewarded.
The tournament has gone on too long, but the organisers wanted to have a reserve day for every game in case of circumstances but I dont think that was necessary. I hope the ICC will reconsider this in 2011.
The world cup is lacking the caribbean atmosphere because the ICC imposed too many restrictions on the game here which just sucked the caribbean culture out of the games. Watching cricket in the caribbean right now isn't very much different than watching cricket at Lord's. They banned the instruments, the food, the rum etc saying that extra caution was being taken because of Australia and England's involvement in the War on Terror but really what does that have to do with CWC2007?

You can't just fix competitions so the "top teams" get through.
If India and Pakistan had won their group matches as Ireland did they would have qualified, they didn't because they were not good enough on the day(s).
The fact that Ireland have lost more matches at a later stage in the competition is irrelevant, if India or Pakistan had got through they may have lost the same number, we will never know.

i have no sympathy towards India and Pakistan all the teams in the world cup play under the same rules,India and Pakistan just let themselves down with poor performances, but i agree that the world cup has run way too long and is surely lacking in terms of atmosphere , character and the excitement that should befit a world cup

this world cup has been one of the best so far my only disappointment is the west indies team otherwise am totally enjoying the drama and the upsets for me it is a thriller. india and pakistan did not play well to qualify for the super eights, cant blame the organizers for that.

i think the organisation was fair nuff. the teams should show that they can beat others in order to qualify. sounds fair to me. one shouldnt jus qualify coz they been playng test for 10-15 years.
performance takes u thru not ur influence!
