The mirror ritual by which Bloody Mary is summoned may also relate to a form of divination involving mirrors and darkness that was once performed on Halloween. While as with any sort of folklore the details may vary, this particular tale encouraged young women to walk up a flight of stairs backwards, holding a candle and a hand mirror, in a darkened house. As they gazed into the mirror, they were supposed to be able to catch a view of their future husband's face. There was, however, a chance that they would see the skull-face of the Grim Reaper instead; this meant, of course, that they were destined to die before they married.

The appearance of a ghostly figure in the mirror could be explained quite easily for the more complex rituals, for example spinning around whilst summoning Bloody Mary in front of a mirror lit by candles. The combination of dizziness, rapid movement and flickering lighting could easily fool the eye into seeing someone, especially when the idea has already been implanted. The participant may think that they have seen a spirit, it is, however, most likely a trick of the eye brought upon by the combination of darkness, fear and disorientation.

Bloody Mary was a daughter of Catherine the Great and Henry the VIII. She was denied the throne b/c her father had a mistress called Ann Boleyn and had a son that Catherine could not provide for him. Mary took the throne out of some misfortune after the death of her mother. She tortured and killed people for her own pleasure. The mirror thing has nothing to do with it and since it is all apart of British history no i do not believe in her it was a stupid story parents made up th scare there kids like the candy man.

yes i heard many stories where she has killed people. i've never tried it but i have a witness. she said bloody mary and she saw her in the mirror but her sister knocked on the bathroom door so she went away.so she is real.

This develop into compleatly purely a pretend. the authentic bloody mary develop into acually a woman who had to quit the Anglican church from spreading. (i think of that develop into the call of it) she develop into with the fringe of the catholic church and had to place an end to the Anglican church and started killing human beings from that factor to scare the different Anglicans' in different words her call develop into in simple terms mary, yet by fact of her killing they gave her a nickname. and thats how she grew to develop into bloodymary. no longer something frightening approximately that.
