I was washing my car with my 9 year old son at a do-it-yourself carwash, and next to us was a black teen playing loud hip hop on his stereo.

Since my son was 5 years old I taught him to treat all races equally and to never use derogatory names for different races. But here was this black teen loudly playing music that constantly referred to "***@@'s", "ho's", bitches, etc.

For 5 minutes my son heard blacks calling blacks ***@@'s and ho's. So I go over to the black teen and tell him "I spent the last 4 years teaching my son not to ever use such language when referring to blacks, and in the last 5 minutes you and your music just undid all of that."

Why should my son have to treat blacks with more respect than blacks treat themselves? Why do blacks not realize they are harming the cause for equal and respectful treatment of all races when they speak of one another the way they do?

Black women in colleges were on the news and they said the same thing, that until they demand and get respect from rap singers etc. they can't expect white men to behave any better. One young woman was in law school and has been launching a campaign to boycott rappers etc. She said that until "we clean our own houses, nothing will change".

I think that these younger kids just wanna push their way to the top. Show people they can do as they please, speak as they please and make noise as loud as they please. They probably get that from Al Shitttongue. They see how he gets away with the big mouth stuff so they figure they can too. They don't realize that most non black people are NOT against them. That was the past. But because there are a few then we all have to suffer. It's sad. So now you have to teach your child a double standard. That's what things are getting down to. With all the problems in the world this should be layed to rest. But while people like Shittongue are still around that will never happen. Maybe you can tell your son that that is the kind of person he should avoid cause they aren't going anywhere in life and that that's not what he wants to grow up to be like. They are called "bad people".

No don't fool yourself into thinking that Don Imus is a victim (especially of the Hip Hop) culture. He has made racist, sexist and antisemitic comments over the past 40+yrs of his media career. The "gangsta rap" that you are referring to has only been in existence for about the last 10 to 15 years.

Unfortunately, the term "ni@@er" has been used degrade and erode the African-American psyche over many hundreds of years in America. The younger black generations attempt to own the "n"-word by changing the "er" to an "a" changes nothing in its definition of disrespect and ignorance.

You should continue to teach you son respect for all races regardless of the few instances you run into a few disrespectful and ignorant black people. There a few disrespectful and ignorant people, regardless of race, in the world that we are will encounter in one form or another.

you are able to nonetheless practice your son to appreciate others because of the fact thats the best ingredient to do. its not rap music it is screwing childrens up, its the dad and mom of those childrens that are actually not coaching their new child ideal from incorrect so then they get caught up in hip hop custom. dad and mom are accountable, not rap songs. oh and Don Imus is a 60 somethin grown guy, he isnt slightly youngster. he's familiar with what to assert and to not say. hip hop custom doesnt provide him a excuse to make those stupid comments. peace
