Area 51 is an Air Force base. There was "something" that crashed in the general area back in the 60's, and some people thought it was alien. So it is presumed that the refuse (and bodies) were taken to Area 51 to be studied. Then some people believe that Area 51 is only a cover up for the REAL test center that is hidden away someplace else. And then there's S.E.R.P.O....

Area 51 used to be a testing ground for government Black Projects, such as the SR-71 Blackbird, the F-117 Nighthawk and the B-2 Stealth Bomber. This facility and these aircraft were kept secret for good reason. We did not want those who would oppose us millitarily to know about them.

It was that strategic advantage that lead us to such easy sucess in Gulf War I.. that and we wern't dumb enough to try to occupy an Islamic nation. Ugh.. anyway..

These aircraft were flown and tested for many years before they were publicly avowed. What's interesting is that you can see how the sightings of UFO's changes as different projects are seen. In the 50's and 60's, people aways saw 'cigar shaped' UFOs.. now we know that they were probably the U2 spyplane, which has very round and narrow profile.

In the late 70's and 80's, people started seeing triangle shaped UFOs. We now know that they were probably the F-117 and B-2, which are very angular craft.

Area 51 has been decomissioned, their projects moved elsewhere. Everyone knows it's there. We've all seen pictures taken by the Russians. They maintain it's secrecy as a decoy, so people focus on THAT and try to figure out what's going on THERE, so we don't pay attention to what is happening in secret bases elsewhere.

That's not to say there aren't Alien piloted ships from other planets, but I would wager that our Government doesn't have them. I don't think even Bush would be stupid enough to declare an Alien lifeform from a much more advanced civilization an Enemy Combatant. ;D

Area 51 is an military airplane test site. Some people don't believe that because in 1989 a sciencetist claimed he was from area 51 working on alien spaceships. Also the Roswell incedence. There was something falling out of the sky and when people went to take a look to see what it was they say they seen and alien ufo crashsite. A truck came and picked up the remains of the "ship" and people say they took it to area 51 by the REAL men in black.

The Groom Lake Base is this top-secret military base located 90 miles north of Las Vegas (which is in Nevada). It's in grid number 51 of the Nevada Test Site, so it's called Area 51. The United States Air Force Flight Test Center controls the base. It's best known for testing exotic aircraft and weapons. The base was created in 1954 as a place to test the secret U-2 spyplane that was used to fly missions over the Soviet Union. Then it started to house the SR-71, A-12 and D-21 drone. The F-117A was tested there, also. In the 1980's the base increased in size, along with the runway (which increased to the present 6 miles). Then, mysterious lights began to appear, and armed guards known as the cammo dudes started patrolling the border. The government closed many viewpoints from which the Area 51 base could be seen. In 1989, a "physicist" named Bob Lazar claimed that he worked at a base south of Area 51 and also claimed that Area 51 was testing extremely advanced aircraft and UFO's they got by trading with the aliens. Since then, Area 51 has been thought to be the test center of captured UFOs because of the lights in the night sky.

The real Area 51 is a place where secret types of aircraft and designed and constructed. If you like at a stealth bomber in a 3/4 profile and blur your eyes a little bit, it looks remarkably like a flying saucer. The stealth bombers were flying for 10 years before he famous SR-71 spy plane came out of there. It was called the "skunk works" because of the smells of the chemicals used to make the materials necessary for those types of aircraft.

Area 51 is an urban legend. It's supposedly part of the Air force base outside New Mexico where the remnants of an alien craft and its occupants are apparently dissected and studied.

I have seen area 51 in google maps. It is nothing but a top secret location of someone (I too don't know). There's a rumour that there are UFO's. I don't think aliens live there
