im not trying to be mean but honestly i dont think you have what it takes. yes it is VERY competitve, lots of rejection, and you have to KNOW that its what you want more than anything. you have to be willing to give up anything to have it, because trust me it is a career that takes over your life. your already talking about giving up, how competitive it is, that you dont think you can do it, and you havent even started drama classes in highschool yet. if you are serious about becoming an actor you have to live that, and know that you will do whatever it takes to get there. just because you love films doesnt mean anything. its not all fun and games. its a serious, hard job. your working long hours, sometimes days in a row with barely any sleep, people dont take it seriously and when they find out how it really is they realize wow its not for them. if you think you can do it, then by all means, but you dont even sound like you believe in yourself, which when no one else does and your in an industry where you constantly get rejected or criticized, thats not a good start.

Part of being an actor is performing in front of a live audience.
You have to ask yourself why you want to be an actor.
Is it because you want to make lots of money, be famous, and have everyone worship you? If so, this is probably not the job for you.
Or is it because you want to be performing in plays, vaudeville, or a TV or movie set? And you like to show off your acting talents? Or get thrill performing? If so, you have to a tall (at least 5-9 for men), have a good, solid voice, and not be afraid to take a chance. Then you have an excellent chance of becoming an actor, if not on film, then stage.

First; it's not so much a matter of god-given talent than it is of working to develop and market your skills.
First, though, make certain that you love acting--right now you say you have little experience, and maybe it's the fame or the finished product you like instead of the work. Actors must labor constantly on the basics of movement, voice, character analysis--and also should be thoroughly grounded in all of the technical and business aspects and history of their art. The job itself involves lots of sitting around being bored, lots of early a.m. calls for make-up and lines (especially in film and TV).
So see if you can talk to any professional actors in your area, job-shadow them if possible, get to know what the daily grind of the career would be. Then you'll know if it's for you. If so, then:
For college--start looking NOW for universities that have good theatre programs. You want to get into the best one you can, at minimum a school that offers a BFA (bachelor of fine arts) in performance. Given your lack of experience, you might not impress the very top programs, but there are many good ones that would accept you.
For career--what counts most is not raw talent but persistence. It's true that anyone who is undecided about acting or another profession will always wind up in that other profession--over 90% of people who want to work as actors give up eventually.
If you are one who never gives up, you can make it. You'll need to keep taking instruction in acting, movement, voice for many years after college (I've got a video of Joan Woodward, way past her greatest successes and on the faculty at Maryland directing students like Dylan McDermott--and at one point she's in a master class for actors taught by Bobby Lewis). You'll go to a hundred open auditions before you get a paying role (Mary Martin was nicknamed "audition Mary" because of the number she had to do before her first break) and you'll flip ten thousand burgers (or similar pay-the-bills job) before you earn your equity card.
Once you get the equity card, if you have decent skills and a good work ethic, you'll make a living. You're probably never going to get famous and filthy rich--but you'll get to rub elbows sometimes with those who are.

Join the club. Of course, don't be afraid that you don't have what it takes. Just go out, wing it, and if they don't like you, then try again next time. I want to be an actor, too. It is a job that many people want, so there's big competition, and because of this have a backup career just in case. In the meantime, if you have a local theater try out there for plays, that's what I do.

oh please, you are only 17. You have so much time to meet and date girls, and then find the right girl. Dont worry about it. If you believe in 'Fate', then you wont have to worry about finding the right girl, because she will come along at the right time, the right moment and things will work out . Good luck, and stop worrying :)
