It's a movie BASED ON COMICS, that is based on someone's ideas and design. I don't remember the name of the guy, but if you perceive the film as the ecranisation of his comics, not a history epic, it would make perhaps more sense and be less insulting. :)
300 is a 2007 film adaptation of the graphic novel 300 by Frank Miller, itself partly inspired by another film based on the Battle of Thermopylae, The 300 Spartans.[1] The film is directed by Zack Snyder with Frank Miller attached as an executive producer and consultant, and was shot mostly with bluescreen to duplicate the imagery of the original comic book.

If they tried to be as accurate as possible, would the movie cost more? Probably. If they tried to be as accurate as possible, would as many people have gone to see it? Probably not.
Therein lies the crux of the matter. Directors who make movies that don't make money eventually become former directors. The makers of this movie were out to make money. It looks like they succeeded. What all this "controversy" is doing is keeping the movie on people's minds and making more money for the investors.

I agree. Jeesh! Its a movie, the purpose of which is entertainment of the masses. If you want accuracy, watch the History Channel. Dude, it was written by a guy that does comic books... Get a clue!

Yea, and being a Scot, i was really offended by Fat Bastard in the Austin Powers movies. O, hang on. Actually I wasn't, on account of it just being a film.
And considering the Persian king inf the film was Xerxes....

Relax... as they say, it's not a history lesson, and, most likely, one of the disclaimers is, Any resemblance to any person, place or thing, etc, is purely coincidental..
In other words, don't get your drawers in a wad... It's the work of somebody's IMAGINATION! I'm sure he wasn't around back then to get it perfect..

It's a movie. It's art. It's one random guy's idea.
It is not meant to be a history lesson.
