Actually normal pregnancy time without any complications is anywhere from 40 - 42 weeks and in some cases longer (you know cause some women have those babies that for some reason just don't wanna come out and have to be induced)
It always felt so so long for me counting week by week. So instead I counted by the month, it just made it shorter for me. So when I went for monthly check ups, it would annoy me when they always asked how many weeks along I was. I told them I didn't know because I count by months to make the time seem to fly by for me (which was true) and I'd tell them well you've got my chart and have been seeing me since 4-6wks...I'm sure it's says in my profile how many I am now.
The most confusing time was when I just had my last baby. I didn't know when was my last period for them to estimate how far along I was and when I'd have the baby. I just only knew that I was pregnant (some women just know or like in my case after experiencing the first pregnancy you just know when you're expecting again) so I went in to emergency because of bleeding in my first trimester. I got the usual thing of doctors telling me don't worry, it's probably a period, because in the first trimester most women don't show yet and before that I hadn't been to a doctor to have them confirm that I was pregnant again. So they did an ultrasound and did find that I was correct....there was the tiny little baby in me.....but then came the hard part, we had to wait for the regular 5month ultrasound so then the baby would get big enough they could get a proper estimate of how many weeks the baby actually was.
So hang in there honey, you'll have baby soon enough, even though right now the 40 weeks, 10 months seems like a lifetime. Congratulations!!!!!!!!!

Pregnancy is worked out from the first day of your last period, so your really not pregnant for the first 2 weeks (pre Conception). As ovulation usually occurs aprox the 14th day of your cycle (give or take a few days, depending on your cycle). The nine month thing is kind of tricky as a month during pregnancy is worked out in lunar months a lunar month is worked out in 4 x 28 day cycles making pregnancy 10 lunar months long (given that some calender months have more weeks than 4 ). So in short 40 weeks (duration of pregnancy) x 7 days = 280 days of pregnancy. When you divide 280 days by 28 days ( usual cycle) you get 10 lunar months of pregnancy.
I hope this makes some sence.

Full-term pregnancy is at 40 weeks.
The trouble for new expectant moms (first child) is that the system doesn't make sense.
several pieces of info are necessary to reach a completely accurate due date:
1. The exact date you became pregnant. (this is possible if you keep good records or a diary/journal), this is also possible in monogamous relationships. Or in lieu of that, the last date you had sex.
2.The exact first day of your last period. (I refer you again to good record-keeping).
Once you have the necessary information, visit your doctor.
The date he gives you will be the most accurate ever, because it is based on specifics, not a best guess.
The dates vary, until a more "specific" date can be derived, base on the gestational age of your baby (determined by ultrasound) or based on standard fundus measurements.
Even with these, results can be off, because of a small baby or (an) unrevealed multiple.
Without personal specifics, relax and go with whatever the doctor says. Your baby, unless pre- or post-term, will be born right on time!
Shop early to avoid surprises!
Hope I helped!

Actually, there are 40 weeks in pregnancy! If you look at it as 4 weeks in a month, there are really 10 months, however, in truth, there are 4.33 weeks in a month, so it's a little more accurate. I am also 32 wks. pregnant and I'm due June 9th. Your date is counted from your LMP (last missed period), not from date of conception, which can also be confusing.

you actually have two more months if you are 32 weeks pregnant. Now it is 40 weeks. I thought that it was 9months as well and then when my doctor started talking about when you are week 40 and stuff I was like whoa thought it was only 9months. Now they give you your due date for 40 weeks after you concieve your child. You should have your child in june since it is 40 weeks

I understand your confusion. It really isn't that difficult to understand once your doctor explains the 'weeks' to you. Sit down with your physician and have him/her explain to you from the time of your conception throughout the 40 weeks of pregnancy how it is truly calculated. You can't really go by "months" - weeks can put you some days over or under....depending...and as scientists get closer to calculating the exact time and date of conception - we will be able to pin point the exact day and time of a baby's birth. Well, they think they can - we still depend upon the nature to dictate to the baby the time of birth. That is why birth is such a miracle!

pet peeve of mine here...
There are 30-31 days in a month, 28 days in 4 weeks. There are 4.3 weeks in a month not just 4. 13 weeks EXACTLY in 3 months not just 12. Hope that explains it for ya :) Take out your calendar and have a peak!

there is actually 10 months to a pregnancy. FULL TERM IS ANYTHING FROM 37-42 WEEKS.
if there was exactly 9 months then people would never be able to say they are 9 months pregnant,,,, trust the doctors hun they know what they are talking about,,,
