Ok first of all if you are installing or have installed vista your original BT cd will not work on it. You can still connect to the bt site if you are using the ethernet cable or wireless but not USB. Go to the BT site and download the new drivers for USB for vista then you will be ok
You will then need to plug your usb cable in the router and the pc upstairs set it up again for the new pc

Your upstairs PC should connect to the router and not the modem by:

1. LAN cable through one of the RJ45 ports of the router; or

2. Wireless using either a PCI or a USB wi-fi adapter. If this is the case, you should first install the driver BEFORE connecting the wi-fi adapter. Shutdown, install the adapter then boot. Windows should recognize the device and either automatically activate the adapter or lead you to the process of activating it. Also be sure to unclick the "Use windows to configure my wireless network settings" so that you can use the software that came w/ your hardware. This is under the wireless networks tab in Wireless Network Connection Properties.

I've done this 3 times on my D-Link G122 USB adapter w/c I plug to 3 different PCs (one at a time of course).
