My motherboard’s second IDE port is not working, so I had to buy an IDE PCI card so that I can hook up two additional hard drives to my computer. The problem is, I’m not too sure how the jumpers should be setup on the two new hard drives that I am installing. Should the jumpers on the two new hard rives be taken out completely (so as to make them slaves,) or should they be set to “cable select?”

The new PC card has an independent IDE channel.
Each IDE channel on a PC is capable of having one Master & one Slave connection via the same IDE cable.
The two hard drives connected to it must be set as Master & Slave (respectively) in order to work properly.

Leave the hard drive settings on your Primary IDE connection (from the mainboard) as they are.

Hi gcgipson,

Since your master is already set I would set both new drives as slaves. I would be leery of the cable select function going through a PCI card.
