I think so. Some of them even say not to leave the room. because the first month is recovery time. ppl believe that if anything goes wrong eg. catched a cold .... then the mother will be "damaged" forever.

I'm pure Chinese from Philippines and sad to say my mom does that to me . but i can resist the smell of my hair and my body . so in 3 weeks time i took a bath. my mom even gave me chinese medicine for about 15 packs . and i drink it every day . i even ate black chicken with lots of ginger in it . it's really hard to ff all those things. but Chinese pple said it really works for them .sad to say i just had an abortion (i dont know whats the medical term for abortion ) last 2 weeks ago because the baby doesn't have a heart beat and the sack is deformed . & i also ff my mom chinese traditional thing .

It is part of an old tradition, but is rarely followed in China any more.

In Korea, the new mother and baby don't see anyone except close family for maybe 30 days.

Such traditions do make some sense in the days before antibiotics and modern medicine.

sounds like an old wives tale to me. I have never heard of that, and not really sure logically how that would work.
