I dont ask or answer a lot of questions I just like to read them but I have read loads about the American soldiers fighting for their freedoms and that they fought for their freedom of speech and all that.

So I want to know who they fought for that freedom or who tried to take that away ?

I also see a lot of answers by people from America saying that they have the freest country in the world.

What rights or freedoms do they have that we do not have here in the UK or in other countrys apart from the right to own a gun ?

These are probably stupid questions but I dont know the answer and I would like to know.

Thanks to anyone who answers.

The rights to go around bullying people and claim everything in this world belong to them. The right to be arrogant and think they are the best in this world. The right to earn more money and expect to earn the same in other countries. The right to dominate most of the market such as fast food, drinks, shoes etc. The right to start a war without being attack by other countries.

Few people ask! Curiosity is healthy. In the US. it is assumed that this is the greatest. A popular terminology in the average lexicon of the average citizen..
The premise of the Greatest and best in the world, is a result of trophyism. From kindergarten to college, a child receives hundreds of stars and prizes for accomplishing little of any social value.
Fighting is also taught early, in games of cowboy and Indians, we kill, we kill. The terminology teaches early how to crush the enemy basketball team, ra ra!, It is learned that anything outside of your accepted group or political party or church is -- the enemy -- of course!.

Who they fought? Easy! That so-called enemy, the wholesale focus of convenient location; An Arab oil country led by a reluctant, independent leader who would no longer march along prescribed lines. May i add here, that most misinformed citizens believed that Saddam was planning to come over and attack the US. as in 9-11. They did not differentiate between Arab countries and nationalities.

The right to own a gun is a very important issue in the US. It has earned us the highest per capita rates of death, suicides, incarceration and court cases. The very premise of self defense causes the most fear.

Sorry, can't find any freedoms that other developed countries don't have. The ones here are severely curtailed by the atmospheric paranoia.

* The right to bear arms. I think only three countries have this: the US, Israel, and Switzerland. (I might be wrong, though.)
* Innocense until proven guilty. The burden of proof is usually on the defense, even in many democracies.
* No king or royal family living off the people's taxes.
* We have 50 little countries, so if you don't like the laws of one, you can move to another with no governmental interference.
* Going from poverty to leadership is easier here than almost any other country. Bill Clinton, Harry Reid, Clarence Thomas, Abe Lincoln, and Jimmy Carter were born very poor, yet managed to achieve the highest levels of government.

America has freedoms of speech and publication definitely better than anything in most societies.

I don't know how it is today, but Britain used to have a requirement that the publication of a newspaper or periodical needed a license from a government agency. I know India still has this. But in America anybody can publish anything without government oversight. You do not anybody's permission to publish anything any way you want. And you you can hand out or sell your publication on any public street. You are limited only by the laws of libel.

The publisher Loompanics in Washington State sells a lot of books which will be taken from you by customs if you try to carry them into less-tolerant Canada.

Ernst Zundel, jailed by Canada, could not be defended publicly in Canada, Britain or Germany, but his wife maintains a website supporting him - the Zundelsite - and it has to be based in the US. No other country is so tolerant.

I once met Dr. Henry Morgentaler, who was imprisoned three times by the Province of Quebec. That just could not happen in the US, where the prosecution cannot prosecute you more than once for the same offense.

In America you can drive your car three thousand miles from coast to coast, and never once be required to show identification. Try that in Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Mexico or Spain.

For all its faults America is still the most free society on earth.

I love this line

"The publisher Loompanics in Washington State sells a lot of books which will be taken from you by customs if you try to carry them into less-tolerant Canada."

Less tolerant Canada, that's FUNNY.

Canada allows people to get married whether they want to marry someone of the opposite gender or the same gender.

Do you know why Canada has the reputation of having long lineups to see doctors (and it is true). Because we allow ANYONE to be sick and treated, not just the people that can afford it.
We don't let large religious groups tell a party which direction to head.

If you want to hear what Canada is really like, even from an American journalist, read this.

Socialism versus capitalism; entrepreneurial-ism and self-reliance versus the entitlement mentality, would be the answer.

However, as each day passes, the U. S. is heading in your direction. If the liberals have their way, it won't be long before we're standing in long lines to get medical attention. As it is, many of us are spending 2/3 of the year working to support the many liberal agendas that have and apparently will continue to be enacted. Especially now that we have a new regime at the helm.

Frightening!

We have lower taxes and a more vibrant economy because of strategic geopolitical manipulation through various agreements and conflicts.

That's not really freedom, per se, but money grants people liberty, to a certain degree.
