I am in the army and one of my buddys had to pcs and leave his pet with me. Not all that uncommon but I don't have the first clue on what kind of tortoise this is or how to take care of it. Any help that you can give would be appreciated by me and almost definately the tortoise.

Please can you give a description or post a photo. If you are abroad it might help to say where you are as it may be a local tortoise.
For instance if you are in Afganistan it is probably a horsefields.
If you are in the Mediteranean it could be one of six or seven species. If you are in africa it will probably get quite big. Please give a bit more information but if you lok on my web site you will find tortoise care sheets which will help.

No idea because you haven't said much about it but generally my tortoise likes dandelion leaves, fruit, vegetables small amounts of water, peas as an occasional treat and sunshine to keep them warm. However, you shouldn't leave them out at night you should bring them inside in a cardboard box filled with scrunched up newspaper otherwise it might get eaten by birds or foxes.

You can go to the World of Turtles gallery at http://www.austinsturtlepage, get the 'tortoises and box turtles' index and find your tortoise.

Then, the 'care sheets' at the site can help you care for it.
