The State of California does not recognize an International Driving Permit (IDP) as a valid driver license. California does recognize a valid driver license that is issued by a foreign jurisdiction (country, state, territory) of which the license holder is a resident.

The IDP is only a translation of information contained on a person's foreign driver license and is not required to operate a motor vehicle in California. Citations issued to a person in California who has an IDP, but does not have a California driver license will be placed on the Department of Motor Vehicle database.

The IDP is also called an International Driver License, International License, etc.

An international license is valid in California for a short period of time after arrival.

The only way you can receive a license for a particular state is if you are a resident of that state. If you're visiting you are not expected to get a license, but if you plan on moving to the state, you would need too.

It depends entirely upon which country you're licensed from but as far as I know you're good to go with most european licenses so long as you're in the country legally and have a valid passport.

you have 2 weeks to get a calif license and remain legal. As a practical matter, you can use another license indefinitely.

a temporary very likely does not have your permanent number on it and if the car dealer will not accept the temporary you will have to wait for the permanent
