I was just wondering. The people on the show usually live in really small houses that,of course, the team knock down and build a mansion in its place which is really nice. But tell me who pays for the electricity etc that a place that size is going to use.

The extreme home makeover is a bit of a scam. The people have to pay taxes on those homes and yes, they also have to now pay for upkeep and utilities. It makes for great TV, but the TV folk don't care that they may have left the families with a bigger problem than they had before.

My friend who lives in America says that they usually pay for the house so they have no morgage to find, all furniture is brand new so no need to replace for ages. They also put all econimical gas electricity in.
If I had no morgage to pay I would be ok and bills no problem.
Need a hanky or several every time I have watched that show.

Monthly operating or living cost is the responsibility of the family. Some times the contractor sets up a "fund" for the family to assist with the mortgage, insurance and that sort of bill(the contractor can get a tax break on those).
That's all I have to say about that.
