Drunk people go back to bed. Russell will be this years number 1 pick no question. Receivers are no good unless someone can throw them the ball. Look at Moss, elite top receiver sucked because no one could get him the ball. Russell is no question #1 pick of the draft.

Jamarcus Russell could possibly not be taken by the Raiders as:
1. Calvin Johnson is the best player in the draft and the Raiders could sure use him as an offensive firepower
2. The Raiders realise that they hav no offense at all. And it all starts at the offensive line not the quarterback....Having Russel is nice but Joe Thomas(OT) could be a smarter choice.
3. Brady Quinn could replace Russell as the number 1 pick..Quinn has been praised as a more competent QB but just not as atheletically built as Russell
4. Knowing the Raiders..they will find someway of screwing up the first pick and pick a placekicker or something wierd like that..

I can think of 1 very good reason it might not happen. AL DAVIS! the man used to be smart, he has lost his mind and does some bizzarre things so nobody can be certain what he is thinking. Most teams when they own the 1st overall pick are already deep in negotiations with at least one potential choice (that is why the Texans surprized everyone last year and took Mario Williams, negotiations with Reggie Bush werent going the way they wanted). So far if the Raiders are attempting to get a predraft deal done they are doing an amazing job of keeping it secret. We know that isnt likely, Davis craves the media attention. They clearly need to address the QB position and while Johnson is a great prospect it wont do much good if they cant find someone who can throw him the ball.

I'd say the only reason they would not pick him is because he is not a "safe" pick. However, he has the best upside of any player in the draft. Calvin Johnson is the "safe" pick. He would give them a big plus and produce as soon as he walked on the field. If JaMarcus doesn't pan out, they may regret picking him and fans would get upset. It is very tough.

The only way I could see it happening is if Oakland holds Calvin Johnson 'hostage' from Jon Gruden and the Bucs. Gruden wants this guy real bad and Oakland would love to have the 4th pick and 1 of TB's top players and still be able to get Russell or Brady Quinn with the 4th pick

The only reason he will not go #1 in the draft is if the Raiders decide they need someone other than a quarterback, which I cannot see them doing. Granted, the Raiders need just about any postion, but a QB should be top priority for them.

Uh, yeah actually...Brady Quinn is the top NFL QB prospect...but the media has already annointed Russell as the Raiders QB of the future...Kind of funny that Al Davis hasn't said that...

The only reason that I can think of would be that the Raiders are in dire need of more offensive and defensive playmakers so they could trade that number one pick and get more picks and get some of their desired needs. Otherwise Jemarcus Russell would be a good pick.

No! Johnson can't go there if there is no one to throw to him, and Quinn isn't mobile enough. Russell fits the Raiders perfectly.
