Do India's school children require sex education ? Please understand the meaning of "Sex Education" before you post your views.
The government's proposal was to introduce it as a subject in addition to the already existing ones. This according to me is a senseless thing to do.There isn't all that much which can be taught in order to teach it everyday. Also the school teachers are in no position to teach this.

I studied In a school for boys,Mumbai. While I was in class 9 we had a two day compulsory seminar on sex education by a very nice, funny & effective teacher. The seminar included videos which were projected on a big screen in our auditorium. The seminar empowered us with everything about sex, intercourse,it's results, birth, abortion,HIV,AIDS etc. along with breaking all our myths

For class 9 such info on sex, abortions may seem heavy duty. But it wasn't,the timing was just right since within a year & half we were out of school & into college where there were no restrictions on our ac

In this day and age, the earlier they introduce them to it the better. Regardless of which country they live in and as much as people want to deny the fact, Kids as young as 5th & 6th grade are becoming sexually active and need to know the risks involved in any type of sexual interaction. I am not talking strictly of intercourse since they do not necessarily do that at that age but about all other aspects of it. By the time they are 13 or 14 they definitely need to know as much as they can.
The one day "sex-ed" movie/talk for a few hours is no longer enough for the kids in these grades. Along with the "changing body" movies in 4th grade they need to talk to them about other things that they may be pressured into doing by their peers. The major sex-ed talk, AIDS/HIV, STDs, etc... needs to be done in 7th grade and they should ALL be educated on prevention of STDs and pregnancy in case they choose to be sexually active.

In HS, 9th graders had a required class for one semester called "Family Living/Life" which covered sex-ed for a few weeks and showed the birthing process, talked about the body parts, watch does what, how they work, etc... for some it made no difference and it showed when they were sent to another school when they became pregnant and sadly enough there were Juniors and Seniors having to re-take the class. The class also covered other things such as budgets, and other everyday life things.

When i started subbing i taught a few days in the Family Living class during the weeks they were doing the "sex-ed" parts of the class. I had to laugh outloud at them on the day they took the test on the reproductive system of males and females. Several boys and girls were clueless and i told them as much when they were labeling males parts as female and vice versa. Not surprising, several of them also ended up becoming parents not long after that.

I know there is a sex ed seminar available for Indian adults www.betterloverseminar.com ... but i guess kids need to learn the more basic aspects of sex too, so they can be safe!

Of course kids don't need to know the sensual aspects of sex, but an adolescent boy needs to know that it's ok to masturbate to release his frustrations, and young girls need to know that the blood coming from their vagina does not mean they're injured in there, it just means they are becoming a woman...stuff like that is important to teach.
