I have really unusual cycles as well. I'll have mine for anywhere from a week to several months at a time, then I'll go without one for many months. I was diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia. I also have anemia from the blood loss. It can be caused by a progesterone (hormone) imbalance. The body is either making too much estrogen, or not enough progesterone to maintain natural cycles and proper shedding of the uterine lining, so it grows too thick before it expels. Some can be treated with progesterone treatments or birth control pills, others may need more extreme surgical measures.

I'm not saying this is what's wrong with your friend, but it is possible. The only way to find out for sure is to see her gynecologist for further evaluation.

Having her period for months at a time?? Get her to a doctor, for pity's sake! That would be a serious hormone imbalance. It's possible that taking birth control pills will get it under control, but it may take a lot more than that. I had a friend who had a similar problem, and she had to have a hysterectomy. It was causing anemia, and she was much healthier after.

i had a similar problem years back, i had fibroids and i became very anemic. my gyn kept treating me with hormones, and other meds. but i always felt sick. at the age of forty three i was fed up and refused any further treatments, and strangely enough i just went into menopause. now i am forty eight years old with no hormone help and i feel better than ever.

tell your friend that she needs to see her gyn asap. there are a number of things that could go wrong like cancer, a friend of mine had some similar problems and she tested positive for the h p v virus and had to have a full hysterectomy.

let her know that it is very important to take care of her health.

Please advise your friend to seek professional advice. She may simply have a hormone imbalance which requires addressing, but it may well be something else. Extensive bleeding may also predispose her to getting anaemia (iron deficiency) so she needs to get on top of this as soon as possible. If it makes her feel more comfortable, get her to ask for a female doctor, or otherwise look up a clinic that specialises in womens' health. Good luck with this!

It sounds like she may have a hormone imbalance, but in order to find out for sure if that's the case she needs to see her gynecologist if she has one, or a primary care physician if she doesn't to try and figure out what is going on.
