Look at Luaka Bop Records. It's David Byrne's label (Talking Heads) and he produces a lot of world music.

gosh... hard one...:-)
let's start with portuguese (not brazialian) :
top bands would be Madredeus, GNR, Xutos & Pontapés, Sétima Legião, Resistência, Silence 4 and of course Rui Veloso. If you like traditional Fado music the queen of fado was Amalia Rodrigues. Plenty more to discover but good starting list..:-)

Bazilian music is very rich since you would have different styles like Axé music, Baião, Capoeira music, Choro, Clube da Esquina, Forró, Frevo, Bossa Nova, Brazilian jazz, Lambada, Latin jazz, Lundu, Maracatu, Música Popular, Brazilian rock, Samba, ...
Recommended artists would be Astrud Gilberto, Bebel Gilberto, Caetano Veloso, Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 and so many more (good search engine is http://www.allbrazilianmusic.com/en/home/home.asp )

French... Michel Sardou, Frédéric François, Michel Delpech, Françoise Hardiy, Michel Fugain, France Gall, Jean-Jacques Goldman, Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Dutronc, Joe Dassin, Mylène Farmer (very special..:-), Les Négresses Vertes, Laurent Voulzy, Gerard Lenorman, ... the list is endless..:-)

Frenc rap artists would be Stomy Bugsy, Les Nubians, MC Solaar, Saian Supa Crew, Manau, NTM, Busta Flex, ... and others..:-)

Spanish artists would include some modern groups like Marea, La Fuga, Extremoduro, Reincidentes, the classic band Heroes del Silencio, and other mixed styles with ska (Ska-p) are the most listened to.
On this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_en_espa%C3%B1ol#Spain you will find a lot (A LOT) of spanish singing artists not just from Spain but also from south-american countries...

Some of the most famous Italian singers are: Enrico Caruso, Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Mina, Claudio Villa, Adriano Celentano, Gianni Morandi, Ornella Vanoni, Lucio Battisti, Patty Pravo, Zucchero, Eros Ramazzotti, Laura Pausini, Lucio Dalla, Renato Zero, Francesco De Gregori, Vasco Rossi, Paolo Conte.
Have a look also at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Italy#Modern_pop

Bitte und..... geniessen..:-)

Gotan Project encompasses portuguese, spanish, french and Italian. As for French rap artists, try MC Solaar. He's awesome.

Oh my goodness yes. I think half of my ipod is foreign. I have Spanish, Japanese, Italian, and Chinese songs on there. I think that's all I have of other languages... I may not know all the lyrics or how to pronounce everything, but I love the music. :D

Rodrigo y Gabriela are an EXCELLENT guitar playing duo. It's truly an experience listening to their music! They're from Mexico (spanish speaking.) But they don't sing though, so I suppose that wouldn't matter!
