What is the definitive American film genre in your opinion?

I would say the gangster film and the western. It's hard to pick from those two.

There are cetaintly a few.
America really invented the Western. But I think that America really perfected the film noir.

I would say westerns also! One other genre that seems to be taking hold are movies set on America's West coast like The celebrity type film about celebrities in Hollywood, Beverly Hills etc.

I would have to say westerns. Any other genre can be set almost anywere, theres gangster movies set everywhere lots in Japan and Europe.
