It is a continuing tradition that flame is taken form the home of the torch symbol in Greece which has been burning for many years and the torch it then carried and passed from one relay to another until the get to the next city where the Olympics will be held. They have more than one torch and one replaces the other as the first runs out of fuel.

on mount Olympus!it's a whole ceremony where"virgin"girls dressed in long white dresses use mirrors and the sun to ignite it and an athlete then takes the flame and runs through the streets!!
