i was absolutely terrified! I grew up in England where they don't have basements. We used to visit N.America and I was so scared to go into basements by myself, even if they were finished. When I was 5 we rented a house in the states and I was watching Wizard of Oz with some other kids in the basement. When the Wicked Witch of the West came on I totally freaked out and wouldn't go back in that basement for the rest of the time we were in that house cuz I thought she lived down there.

A little bit. The few basements I saw always had some weird furnace down there. It's not the man eating version from Home Alone, but it was enough to scare a young kid.

I was more afraid of attics for some reason. I thought that they had more of a chance of being haunted or something.

I did know someone when I was a kid who lived in a house that was built in the early 1700s. The people who built the house were actually buried in the cellar, they had stone markers over where their bodies were. That basement was creepy for that reason alone.

No, I grew up in Louisiana, in the deep south where we don't have basements. I never actually saw a basement until I was an adult and traveled to Boston. La. is too wet for basements.

Not until I saw Halloween. The stairs were right past the back door and in the laundry room there was a whole lot of fully functional hiding places for people who were up to like 200 pounds and it was really big too, and there were too many nooks and crannys.
