i have a 97 pontiac sunfire and it came with a remote to lock and unlock the car. the lock button works ok, but the unlock button doesnt work so well. i tried to get new batteries and that didnt work. what should i do?

you can take the back of the transmitters off....The same procedure for replacing the battery....You will see some contact pads, take a little alchohol and a Q tip to them...You probably just have some gunk on the contacts...

Try to get some lube on to the locking rod. It may move more readily in the locking direction but binds in the unlock direction. Has nothing to do with the remote, just a 10 year old locking system.

Most likely you need a new remote. One of the buttons stopped working on the remote to my car so i ordered a whole new remote. I checked out the dealer and a few parts stores. Autozone was the cheapest. It will probably run you 50-80 bucks.

costs $44 to get a new... pretty sure programming is free.

someone (I don't think I believe him) claims he opens it up and "cleans off" the circuit board inside... I'd be afraid to try it though.
