The candy coating was probably that fake candy melt to simulate white chocolate?? You nuked it way too much and the oils in the candy reached their smoke point. It's not going to be dangerous but certainly unpleasant. Next time use a double boiler. Get a small sauce pan 2/3 full of water and bring to boil. Get a steel mixing bowl that is larger than the top of the pot. After water is boiling, reduce heat to med-high and place bowl over pot, BE CAREFUL FROM THE STEAM and don't seal it. The steam will warm the bowl to 200 degrees and add your candy pieces. Use a spatula and an oven mitt to hold the bowl. Stir your candy until completely melted. Now you can pour inot your molds or piping bag.

You are not supposed to heat candy in the microwave and you put it in way to long. I think you smelled the container melting and it gave off a chemical smell. Don't ever do this again. If you heat candy you only heat it a few secs and stir and repeat until it's hot.

Did you just clean the microwave recently? If you used a strong cleaner, (something containing bleach ammonia etc.) it may have vaporized and gassed you. I hope you didn't eat the candy coating.

could you have thought the *glass* cup was glass and perhaps it was some type of hard plastic??? Sounds crazy but could be... and some thing could have been inside of your mike already, no? Something left, a top or something, could something have been spilled there or poured on there? and you didn't notice it>
