If someone could waste time here typing a question that plainly requires encyclopedic answers, why don't they spend that time typing the question in ask.com or google? What sense does it make to type them here and they could just as easily or quickly, seconds even get the answer from the net???

many questions are not easily answerable in Google etc., ( could you get the answer to your question here from Google?)
I think not. Yes, I'm sure it is possible for people to get their questions answered directly from a search engine, but where's the fun in that?
People like to ask questions and 'meet' helpful people through the pages. And, of course, there are people, like me, who enjoy answering other people's queries.
So, it may not make much sense, it may not be sensible at all, but it does no-one any harm and there is enjoyment to be had (of course, some people are just lazy!)

Sometimes just to solve a simple problem, you have to sort through a lot of crap on search engines to find the diamonds. You might as well use the experience of someone that has already gone through the trouble, if that works for you.

It's fun because you get to interact with people. And, instead of getting the same straightforward answers from different search engines, your mind is opened to different views and perspectives about a certain topic.

It's not enough to ask a question here. It's much better to search for it yourself. But it is also much better if you search for the answer and in addition, ask someone who tried it before or had an experience in it before. (It = the problem or question you are asking).
