I am looking for somebody to talk to who has taken interest in the Imus scandal. I have heard many different opinions, and I just want an intelligent person to talk to about the fact. Let me know what you think!

I think the african american community tends to look for things to get upset about. Whatever happened to people learning to laugh at themselves? Gees, listen to the rap crap and the words in this so called 'music'.... They degrad themselves. I also think Imus got a raw deal. And who the heck are Jesse and Sharpton, they're not leaders, they are morons!

Here are my thoughts: Should Imus have been fired for that one comment? No. I think 2 factors led to his firing. 1) he made a comment about women who aren't public figures and the comments was based solely on their looks. Nothing they did or said, just their appearance. 2) Imus, even though he has done a lot of good in his life since overcoming a cocaine and alcohol addiction, has a history of making degrading comments about women, Latinos, Blacks, Jews, Arabs and Gays. I believe this was the "straw that broke the camel's back". I do not believe he should have been fired based on that one comment.

Why were Blacks so offended? Nappy is a word used to describe Black hair that is kinky and curly. "Ho" is slang for whore. Therefore he was referring to black women, as you would not call a White woman "Nappy headed".

Black rappers call women "hos" in their lyrics so what's the difference. Let's put it like this. If a friend told you your new haircut was ugly, you would probably be upset. But if a stranger told you your haircut was ugly, you would probably get really mad and offended. That's a very simplistic way to explain why some Blacks can tolerate another Black calling them a name deemed offensive to Blacks but get upset when someone of a different race calls a Black person the same name.

My views? The Rappers are just as wrong as Imus. I believe that if Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson boycotted Imus' show they should boycott the record labels who produce and sell the music. I don't believe anyone should use these words same race or not.

I believe in freedom of speech. I also believe in the freedom of not listening. If I find a radio show or a song offensive I simply do not listen or buy. I encourage everyone who feels the same way to do they same thing.

What would Martin Luther King do? I feel that he would have forgiven Imus because he apologized and I think Imus would have changed after this. We are human which we are not perfect and able to make a mistake. I believe that it is only a mistake when after one has realized that one has made a mistake that one does not try to rectify.

well basically imus called called a college women's basketball team nappy headed hos which was a sexist and racists remark. al sharpton and some other guys then made a big deal of of it. advertiserd pulled out of imus's radio show and was canceled. i don't think imus was fired because of the comment he mad. i mean he has said other derogratory remarks about women, jews, arabs, gays. i think he was fired because of how big this thing got and CBS and no choice but to fire imus

Politicians and journalist appeared on his program regularly and as far as I know, none ever objected to his bigoted sexist comments. He said, that the New York Times had sent their cleaning woman to cover the White House, when Gwen Ifill was given the assignment, and none of her colleagues in the press said anything. Now they are full of condemnation of rap music, or fretting about the level of public discourse. The good old boys network were willing to throw Imus to the wolves, but they will continue to think trashing women and blacks is funny. I would like to hear less about rappers and more about the comments he made when politicians and media figures were on the show, so we could see who the hypocrites are. But that will never happen, the media has decided it is the fault of rappers, and they are innocent bystanders not accessories to slander.

my comment to Nikki on your post above, you're comments are basically stating that it is ok within the black community to use these derogatory statements to one another amongst yourselves is part of what keeps racism alive and well in this country. There should be no words that are "ok" for one specific group to use but not for another. If a rapper can refer to girls in the hood as a nappy headed ho's, he is offending not just a small group of girls as Imus did, but a large amount of women. If a rapper specifies girls in a certain neighborhood as ho's in one of his songs, then would it be considered offensive? Really, where do you draw the line? There are either words you can say or you can't say them. These words need to apply to all races. Until then we'll always have an issue in this country. As a white male who does listen to hip-hop tell me why I shouldn't find it acceptable to call any hood rats I meet a bunch of b*tches and ho's? Why can't I use the N-word as endearing term to my homies? 50 cent does it...

Imus, he develop into incorrect are not getting me incorrect, yet truly adequate is adequate with this racism and sexism element. surely, racism to me is a double properly-known. Why is it which you will call Asians Chinks and Spanish Spicks and White human beings Hicks. yet god forbid you're saying something approximately all people else. Racist communities additionally should circulate after comedy shows, right? there's a superb form of racism there, incredibly if theres a white guy or woman in the group. Rap music, is sexist. a thoroughly distinctive element yet of course to a pair, its as massive of a deal. I in simple terms think of adequate is adequate. we are in 2007 and human beings ought to recover from racism already. Don Imus is extremely incorrect, yet he's entitled to his very own opinion. in simple terms like anybody else is. i do no longer think of he develop into right for asserting something relating to the Rutgers females incredibly by fact that they have carried out lots for their college, group, and themselves.

I don't know what the big deal is. So he called those girls nappy headed ho's. So what?! What happed to free speech? Did he actually physically harm anyone with those words? The media and those black orginazations are taking it way too hard and have taken it too far. And I don't think he should have been fired. He was just voicing his opinion.
