I do. The bags are usually too hard to open so it's easier to rip a hole.

My apples don't come from a bag, I hand pick them and put them in a paper sack at the grocery store.

yes. Then I peel them, chop them, leave them in a crock pot set on low for a couple of hours for better than store-bought applesauce.
