My Camry will not start, and it is not a power problem - the radios/cd player/aircon works fine. When I try to start it, I get a strange high pitched click-click-click sound, not the usual low brrrbrrrbrr sound. Anyone know what is wrong?

Sounds like your starter solenoid is just clicking but not pulling in. Several causes but would start with checking corroded connection on battery cable. This can be on either end of either cable so start at the battery and then the ground end of the negative cable as they are easy to get to. Then it's the ol' get out and get under task from there to see if it is at the starter end of the positive cable. If you can, run a check on the battery with a volt meter. As you try to start and get the clicking see how low the voltage is falling off. A large fall off indicates a bad battery or at least one that needs a charge. Try jumping it from another car or battery.

The radio, a/c is not the best test of the battery. Try the signal lights , If they flash slower than betore., Your battery is the problem,

If the Battery seems OK, then take off the batter cables , clean them and reattach them firmly.

If those check out OK then it sounds like your solinoid. But I'm betting on the battery

i had a problem just like this. power was perfect. everything worked fine! but it wouldnt start. what i found out was it was the starter. lol.. i lived a little ghetto until i had it professional fixed. lol. what happened is that the starter fell into a dead spot. so what i did is that i got a hammer and hit the started a few times to knock it out of the dead spot. and it started right up after that. but as time went on it. it happened more and more. and required me to carry a hammer with me at all times. lol

Discharged battery. Try a jumpstarter or a replacement battery.

Your radio and dash lights can still work with a low charged battery but not your starter.
