It's awesome. Expensive. But, awesome. Rent is relatively expensive. Job market is mediocre at worst, and entertainment is ... ok. Not much entertainment for me when I was there. But, overall, it is a nice place to reside. Good luck!

It's not very exciting, honestly, and I don't know anyone who's ever chosen to move there without some reason. It's nice if you like living in a seaport town but some areas are a little run down and can be desolate at night. Norwich is a little nicer and a bit safer, in my opinion. Still a little dull but that's Connecticut for you. I'm sure rents are pretty average/low but the nightlife may not exactly be that great. I used to go to a club there when I lived in CT and it was a little trashy. Lots of Navy guys that live at the Submarine Base hang out in the bars. It really would not be my first choice when choosing a 'nice, safe place' to live in CT but there are MUCH worse places than New London!

(I said rents may be average or low considering I now live in NYC so someplace like New London seems cheap to me)
