It's nice. There are some fine, affordable homes, as well as some richer, posh parts of the Woodlands (deeper into the Woodlands)
What I've heard, though, is that you get more for your money in Spring.

The Woodlands is beautiful. The schools are amazing. There are walking trails all through the huge developement, lots of parks, incredible pools, ponds, a mall, 2 hospitals, doctors, dentists, churches, plenty of general stores like grocery, pharmacy, dry cleaners, nail salons, etc, along with nice boutique type stores. Depending on where you work you could literally move to the Woodlands and never have to leave.
For the person who told you that you can get more for your money in Spring, that is partially true. You can get a larger house and lot for less money in Spring, but what you cannot get is the benefit of living in a master planned community. For example homes in the Woodlands hold their value and usually increase in value much faster than other areas. Because one company owns the entire complex and zoned it all before they ever started you do not have to worry that you will buy a $190,000 and someone will build a tacky strip center next to it or low income apartements directly behind you. There are deed restrictions that are STRICTLY enforced in the Woodlands. So while you may be frustrated you cannot keep your boat in your drive way or cut down trees that are visable from the front and you have to get approval for paint color, all those things are invaluable when your neighbor has a boat that is rusted and smells like fish and you have never seen him use it except to throw beer cans into, or when your neighbor across the street decides to cut down all the trees and and plant one huge flowerbed in the whole yard, but they never water, weed or or mow to maintain it, or when your other neighbor decides to paint the house their FAVORITE blue, and it is so bright astronauts see it from space. Those deed restrictions keep home values up, and keep people who do not want to deal with pesky things like home maintenence out.
I live in Spring, and there are some beautiful neighborhoods here, especially on Rayford (one exit South of the Woodlands), but the Woodlands is a great value for all the amenities if you can afford it. It is an incredibly well planned community and has a lot to offer its residents.
Hope this helps.

It is a very nice, upscale community. They have restrictions on tree cutting so it really does seem like a "woodlands." There is a lot of shopping, a very nice amphitheatre, and only a moderate drive to a waterpark (in Spring). The only negative you would find if you actually worked in Houston, It's a long grueling drive into the City.

I don't live in The Woodlands, but I live nearby and have a lot of friends there, so I can tell you this. It is a diverse, master planned community that has most of the things you could ask for , including a major mall, a college, many fine restaurants, good schools (Conroe ISD). It has all the amenities one could ask for and is well patrolled by law enforcement. However, there are many property restrictions not usually found in most subdivisions. Among them: No individual garage or yard sales, no rooftop tv antennas, etc. All in all, I think that you will enjoy living there.

I have a friend who lives in the Woodlands, and it is definitely one of the best places to live in the Houston area. Her kids are out of school already, but I have been there on business and to visit, and it is definitely very nice. And in nice communities like that, you are going to find the better schools.
Good luck! Hope this helps!!

I spent 6 weeks there opening the tommy bahamas, its a beautiful area, and 2 years ago, real estate was dirt cheap and increasing at a huge rate. the sub developments are refered to as "Forests" try to find a forest that isnt finished and buy a home there, as soon as its done, your homes value will skyrocket.
All the buisnesses are located behind forestage, so you need to know you way around, also, lots of rich, pretentious people around. Its a nice area, and if you stop by Tommy Bahamas, ask if Kirsten Dejardins is working, if so, tell her dan says hi...
