My friends son only drinks two ounces every 2 - 3 hrs. I don't think that is enough but I don't have children. She never gets any sleep and is constantly feeding him. Is this normal? He isnt on breastmilk either. Thanks

A 3 month old baby should be able to drink about 3-5 ounces per feeding(about every 4 hours). Two ounces every two hours is what a baby eats in the first month, but the baby should start drinking more the older he gets. I have two kids, and they both ate more than that at three months. My daughter is small for her age and always has been. She wore newborn diapers and preemie clothes for the first 4 months and she ate abot 4 ounces every 4 hours at three months. So did my son. Have your friend try to get her baby to eat more at his feedings until he gets used to it. If she can get him to then she won't be constantly feeding him because he will be full longer. New mom's really don't get much sleep, but she should be aable to start getting more now that he is getting older. If she can't get him to eat more she can try putting a little bit of baby cereal in his bottles. It will help fill him up and get him to start eating more at each feeding. (not a lot though, just maybe a small spoonful) Once he starts eating more then she can stop if she wants, but some people put baby cereal in the bottle at bedtime so they sleep better. Everyone sleeps better on a full stomach. I work at a daycare and we have some one month olds that eat 6 oz every two hours. That is way to much, but everytime they cry their mom sticks a bottle in their mouth. Hope this helps you some.

If the baby is gaining weight then the baby is eating enough. If the baby is not getting enough weight then he is not getting enough and the baby’s pediatrician should offer some advice. Other than that there is no right amount for a baby to drink. Officially a baby should drink 3.75 oz every 3 hours or 4oz every 4 hours. My little girl ate 2 oz every 3 hours when she was 3 month old. Now at 5.5 month she drinks 2.5-3oz every 3 hours. She is in the 50% for weight and has been in that %tile since birth. It does not concern me because she eats as much as she needs to eat. Some babies have small stomachs and are not big eaters. Also if the baby’s mother is not a big woman then the baby might not have a big appetite as well. Usually larger women have bigger babies and smaller women have smaller babies, it’s genetics.
As long as the baby is health y and thriving then he is eating enough.

Your friend should feed her baby until he is satisfied. It shouldn't be a certain number of ounces every so many hours. When baby is hungry, make a bottle and when he is full he will stop eating. Babies this young know how much they need to eat and your friend shouldn't be concerned about feeding him too much. If she increases the amount she feeds him she will find that they both get more rest and the length of time between feedings will increase. She needs her rest to be at her best and her son needs nourishment and rest so he can do the important job of growing. Feeding by a set schedule rarely works because every baby is different. Just my opinion!

My 11-week old nurses and then takes about 2 oz. from a bottle (I don't make enough milk) and she eats about every 2 1/2-3 hours during the day, and 4-5 hours at night. Her doctor says that she gets about half her food from me, so a rough estimate is 4-5 oz. per feeding, which is what the doctor recommends.

My 3.5 month old has 4 oz..of formulation consistent with feeding apart from her final one formerly bedtime (she has 6 oz..then). She eats 4 oz..at 8, 11, and 3...then 6 oz..at 6:00. She is going in for her next record appt. next monday and her final appt replaced into 2 months in the past so i'm not too specific how plenty she weighs. yet once I had to wager, it is probable around 12.5 or 13 pounds and 23 or 24".

Every baby is different and usually know instinctively just how much they need. Of course its easier for a baby to regulate their food if they are breastfed. As long as her baby is growing fine and is healthy it shouldn't be a problem. Most new Moms don't get very much sleep. Your friends feeding schedule sounds about the norm for most. It's a shame she isn't nursing though.

He should have 26-32oz per day, generally a 3 month old should be able to consume about 3-4 oz per feeding.

A baby's stomach is about the size of their fist. about 4-5oz every 4 hrs, and cereal with the last feeding before bedtime.
