I've heard from people that are into college football or college basketball, that it's because of the money. They don't like to see athletes getting paid is this true? If it is that's nothing but jealousy. That's being a "player hater" literally. I hope this isn't the real reason. If you feel that it's more exciting then I can understand that. I like college basketball, because I like basketball overall. Now, I love NFL, I hate college football and to me the rankings and polls get confusing to me. I don't understand how the rank teams to get to these bowls by the end of the year and how that would affect next year's rankings. That stuff is confusing as hell to me. That's why I don't watch it. Now, if there's some information I can learn about how these rankings are decided for people like me who don't know crap about college football rankings maybe I'd enjoy watching it because I'd know what's going on as far as wins and losses.

Personally, I like college basketball better than the NBA. But I like NFL football better than college football. To me, they're just different.
Collegiate sports definitely have their downsides. The level of athleticsm is lower. The BCS straight up blows. But that doesn't necessarily mean college sports aren't as fun to watch. Sometimes the lack of athletic parity can be fun. I loved watching Rasheed Wallace in college destroying his competition. Ki-Jana Carter at Penn State rushing for 256 yards was unreal. And because there are so many college teams out there, you get to see more different styles of play as well. Things like the Kentucky press, and the Wishbone option play on offense don't exist in the pros because the sheer athleticsm of the defenders makes them hard to execute. But that doesn't make it any less fun to watch on the college level.
As for the point on money. I have to admit that it does corrupt the game. For some guys like Michael Jordan, it never changed their performance. For other guys like baseball player J.D. Drew or basketball player Derrick Coleman, it did. A lot of guys become less motivated when they sit in mansions and drive Ferraris to work. With a guaranteed contract, they become more interested in their stock portfolios than they are in improving their game. They get soft, lazy, etc. As a result, you sometimes see some degree of indifference amongst professional athletes.
Bottom line for me: If you love sports, you'll always find something worth watching at any level. It's just a matter of your tastes.

College football is more pure of a game than the NFL, same with basketball. I just find it more exciting to watch.. not wondering about that guy's contract or what is this team's salary cap. It is all about your team and what they play. I would rather watch the Buckeyes play football, than the Browns.
As for the college football polls/ranking system.. its not very easy to explain. Basically, it is a computer and it ranks teams based on how much they beat a certain team by and their strength of schedule. That only constitutes 25% of the total poll. Coaches/media vote and their info goes for 75% of the final polls. That is as breif as I can get.

This one is easy. The pro athletes play for money obviously, while the college athletes play for pride. Pride has much more competitive motivation than money over the long run in sports. College athletes play to the last second, while a pro team will give up they're behind too bad, or if they don't stand a chance for a title or playoff berth.
Also, college sports is too many of the players the highest they will go, and when they only have a few years left to compete in a sport that they've played all of their life then that deperate, driving call to play harder is much easier seen. Besides, a lot of them may hope to go pro and want to make an impression. But there is a spirit to college sports and tradition that is unseen in pro sports which evolved much later than the college ones.
Speaking of that: GO COWBOYS!

Because the players don't get paid they see it as "pure" where the athltes play for the love of the sport which is bs. The best players are playing for agents & fat major league contracts.

Simply because college sports breed more passion, knowing that the players are playing for the school and a particular community, unlike in the pros, they are playing forr a pay check.

I'll keep it short and simple.
Tradition, rivalries, and it's not about the money. They actually give it their all and play hard.
